FONDA, N.Y. — Surprise, surprise — it was Stewart Friesen on top of the Sunoco Modified feature at Fonda Speedway Sunday. It was the 80th time Friesen has won in the division at Fonda, and he collected a cool $12,000 for it.
Matt Sheppard was second with Michael Maresca, Jessica Friesen and Matt DeLorenzo rounding out the top five.
DeLonenzo took the lead on from S. Friesen on lap two, and lead until Freisen retook it on lap eight and led the rest of the. 40 laps, surviving several restarts to claim that 80th victory.
“That was real nerve wracking there,” Friesen said all of the restarts. “After being at Orange County last night being able to come here to Fonda today and win in honor of a legend, this is special.”
Chad Edwards led every lap of the Crate 602 Sportsman feature to pick up his first victory at Fonda.
Nick Stone won the pro stock feature for his 60th victory at the track while Kyle Dingman topped the limited sportsman feature. John Napoli won the four cylinder race.
There were 129 cars on hand for opening night.
