CONCORD, N.C. – Dunn-Benson Motorsports driver Bobby Pierce has been fined and suspended by DIRTcar Racing for altering tires during the Dirt Late Model Dream.
Tire samples were taken June 7-9 during the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. A total of 46 samples were taken during the event. Testing revealed that the tire on Pierce’s No. 32p had been altered and did not match or conform to the benchmarks provided by Hoosier Tire Co.
As a result, Pierce has been disqualified from the Dirt Late Model Dream and has lost the $13,640 in purse money earned during the event. He’s also been fined $13,640 and will have to pay the tire analysis fee of $1,690. Pierce finished fourth in the Dirt Late Model Dream on June 9.
He’s also been fined 1,000 DIRTcar points and been suspended for 30 days from all DIRTcar sanctioned late model events, including the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series. Pierce currently races full-time in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Pierce and Dunn-Benson Motorsports have appealed the penalties and also been granted a deferral of all penalties until after the appeal is heard. The appeal will be heard within seven days.
