LAS VEGAS — Shane Clanton banked the $20,000 on the opening night of the Duel in the Desert for the XR Super Series late models at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Clanton started on the pole, but gave way to Bobby Pierce at the front of the pack on lap eight and Pierce dominated the 40-lap event until slowing with a flat right-rear tire with only three laps remaining.
Clanton, who was making his first start at the Las Vegas track, held off Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Tim McCreadie for the victory.
Jonathan Davenport finished third, with Tanner English and Brandon Overton rounding out the top five.
English was the fast qualifier for the 42-car field with a lap of 17.042 seconds on the four-tenths-mile track.
