Bloomquist ‘Scraped Up’ After Wild Eldora Crash

ROSSBURG, Ohio — Dirt late model Hall of Famer Scott Bloomquist endured one of the wildest crashes of his career Saturday at Eldora Speedway.

The 60-year-old legend of the sport was involved in the accident during the second heat race for the Dirt Late Model Dream at the half-mile dirt track.

Bloomquist was battling Shannon Babb for position when the two cars collided entering turn three and sent Bloomquist flipping into the wall.

Bloomquist climbed from the wreckage and waved to the crowd before heading to the infield care center for a check-up.

“I didn’t get knocked out,” Bloomquist said. “I was present for all of it, but I scraped up my hand pretty good, knocked some of the flesh off of it. I feel it a little bit in my right elbow and in my left knee, not sure about my lower back. I’d say tomorrow won’t be fun, but I am still functional.”

Bloomquist felt he had a chance to contend for what would have been his ninth Dirt Late Model Dream triumph.

“I felt really confident. Was sure about making this race and felt really good about winning this race tonight,” Bloomquist said. “I’m not really sure what Shannon was thinking there. It looked like he just finished me off and never cracked it (the throttle). That’s something I never would have expected out of Shannon. It’s just another day in paradise.”
