UNION, Ky. – Defending Summer Nationals Champion Shannon Babb found his groove Tuesday night winning the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour stop at Florence Speedway, worth $5,000.
Babb, who’s in the midst of an ever-changing points battle with current leader Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., led from the drop of the green flag and held off Steve Casebolt to win the 40-lap main event.
Casebolt settled for second ahead of Shirley who finished third after starting on the pole next to Babb. NASCAR Nationwide standout Austin Dillon made his second DIRTcar Summer Nationals start of 2012 and finished fourth and Greg Johnson rounded out the top five.
With the victory Babb reduced Shirley’s point lead to 29 markers entering Wednesday night’s race at Brushcreek Motorsports Park in Peebles, Ohio, the first of four remaining events on the 2012 tour.
