CONCORD, N.C. — Chris Madden has more than staked his claim to big-money XR Super Series late model events.
Madden won Saturday night’s return of the Colossal 100 to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, banking the $50,000 top prize.
It was Madden’s third $50,000 score of the season with the series and it came two nights after he picked up a $25,000 check at the four-tenths-mile dirt track.
The Colossal, which ran at the Charlotte Motor Speedway dirt track from 2006 through 2009, returned to the schedule with four nights of racing this week, though Friday’s program was rained out.
Madden started Saturday’s main event from fourth and chased Jonathan Davenport throughout. As the laps wound down, Madden caught Davenport and made his winning move in lapped traffic with only five laps to go.
He led the remainder of the distance to secure the victory.
Davenport finished second, with Chris Ferguson, Brandon Overton and Max Blair completing the top five.
Ferguson was the top qualifier for the 51-car field with a 14.904-second lap.
The finish:
