FORT WORTH, Texas — Chase Allen wired the first night of the Texas World Dirt Track Championship, racing to victory during the 15-lap modified feature at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track Friday night.
Allen beat polesitter Clyde Dunn, Jr. out of turn two to grab the lead at the start of the event, which saw more than 200 modifieds and limited modifieds fill the pit area.
While Allen continued to lead Terry Phillips, who recently claimed a $20,000 payday for winning the Winter Meltdown at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M., began to make his way near the front.
By the time the white flag waved Phillips had driven from the back of the pack to second and was all over Allen for the lead. Phillips gave it his best shot, but he couldn’t find his way around Allen and finished second.
John O. Whittington was third ahead of Dennie Gieber and Dunn.
Paul White captured the limited modified feature, going unchallenged after taking the lead on lap two from Rodney Sanders.
