MOORESBURG, Tenn. – National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Scott Bloomquist is currently hospitalized after being injured in a motorcycle accident earlier this week.
Bloomquist’s team confirmed the news in a statement to DirtonDirt.com.
The accident occurred during Daytona Beach Bike Week festivities, which annually features AMA Supercross, American Flat Track and American Sportbike Racing Ass’n events among its motorsports highlights.
Bloomquist has been hospitalized in Daytona Beach, Fla., and his injuries – affecting his right leg and hip – will sideline him from competition indefinitely.
Team Zero released a social media update Thursday night thanking fans for their thoughts and well wishes, adding that Bloomquist will need “time to heal and physical therapy to get back on track.”
The 55-year-old had been scheduled to compete Friday with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at Ohio’s Atomic Speedway. A three-time Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion, he has raced regularly with the series since 2013 and hasn’t missed a race with the series since Aug. 30, 2013.
Bloomquist is one of the greatest dirt late model competitors in history. In addition to his success with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, he has also collected titles with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series and the Hav-A-Tampa Dirt Racing Series.
He’s won more than 600 features during his career, including a series-best 93 with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
No timetable has been set for Bloomquist’s recovery or return to racing.
