WEEDSPORT, N.Y. — Although he piloted a different race car on Tuesday night at Weedsport Speedway, it yielded the same results as Mat Williamson once again cruised to a modified win at Weedsport, scoring $5,000 as the winner of the Ferris Mowers 50.
Williamson’s win marked his fourth Weedsport victory since last year and second consecutive of this season, but his first in that stretch driving the S&W Service Centre No. 6 machine.
After the redraw put him starting in the sixth position, Williamson used a long green flag stretch to position himself behind longtime race leader Jimmy Phelps, before snagging the lead on a lap 36 restart and running away by more than a second for the victory.
Phelps, who lead the first 36-laps of the event from the pole position, held on for a solid second place finish ahead of Matt Sheppard, Jack Lehner and Peter Britten in the top five positions. The top 10 was filled by Anthony Perrego, Alex Payne, Tim Fuller, Chris Hile and Chad Phelps.
A total of 28 DIRTcar Modifieds were on hand Tuesday night with Chris Hile, Larry Wight and Sheppard scoring heat race wins. The 10-car consolation win went to Dalton Slack, who would charge to a 12th-place finish in the main event.
The companion DIRTcar Sportsman Series Central Region main event was won by Cody McPherson, who started from the ninth position.
Weedsport returns to action on July 7 for the ESS Speedweek Finale featuring the ESS Sprint Cars and the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series.
