Wight Steals Chatham Modified Win From Sheppard

CHATHAM, La. – Larry Wight emerged victorious from Friday’s 32-lap Southern Super Modified Series feature at Chatham Speedway.

Matt Sheppard started from the pole and took the lead early on, with Erick Rudolph, Wight and Stewart Friesen all giving chase. He continued to hold the lead until Caleb Dillard slowed on lap 22 to bring out the caution flag.

When racing resumed the battle was on, with Rudolph challenging Sheppard for the race lead. However, a flat tire slowed Rudolph’s efforts and led to another caution flag on lap 25.

Wight took second away from Friesen on the ensuing restart, but Sheppard slipped away and looked primed to earn the victory. It would not to be though, as the left-rear tire on Sheppard’s No. 9s went flat.

Wight managed to track down and pass Sheppard in the final set of corners as a result, allowing him to steal the victory and the $3,000 payday.

Friesen finished third in the 13-car field, followed by Jack Lehner and Jessica Friesen.

The event was broadcast by SPEED SPORT TV affiliate DirtTrackDigest.TV, which will also provide coverage of Saturday’s 75-lap finale at Chatham Speedway.

The finish:

Larry Wight, Matt Sheppard, Stewart Friesen, Jack Lehner, Jessica Friesen, Erick Rudolph, Ricky Wegner, Eric Williams, Jimmy McCommas, Brother Fowlkes, Caleb Dillard, Brandon Hightower, Glenn Stone Jr.
