SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The 2024 Super DIRTcar Series season is complete, and drivers were rewarded Saturday evening with checks, trophies and other special awards at the annual year-end awards banquet in Syracuse.
Mat Williamson was honored for his second Series title, along with the 17 other drivers who competed full time with the Super DIRTcar Series.
2024 Champion
On the heels of a nine-win season, Mat Williamson held off Matt Sheppard to earn his second Super DIRTcar Series title and first since 2019.
For his efforts, the St. Catharines, Ont. driver earned $60,000.
Along with a win at Volusia Speedway Park, Williamson had eight points-paying victories, including his first Series wins at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Can-Am Speedway, and Land of Legends Raceway. He also tied Jack Johnson for ninth on the Series all-time wins list with 31 victories.
“The first one we came out of the box and (I had) just joined the Buzz Chew Racing team,” Williamson said. “We just hoped to be in contention. We hoped for a top three or a top five and ended up winning.
“That one was very unexpected, and ever since then, you expect it. Your hopes are high, and your expectations are higher. The whole 9S gang sets the bar high, but Buzz sets the bar even higher. We try to win races, and winning races turn into championships, and that’s what we did this season.”
Bryon Chew, Buzz’s son, accepted the owner’s championship trophy for Buzz Chew Racing.

“We’re going to go to work, we’re going to try again next year, and I can’t thank my whole team, my family, my girlfriend, and sponsors enough. Like I said, a really solid year, but we’re going to try again.”
