Spainhoward Scores At Thunderbowl

TULARE, Calif. — Nick Spainhoward topped the Northern sport mod 20-lapper and Garrett Corn won the stock car finale on the second night of the Kris Mancebo Memorial during the fourth round of the Central Valley IMCA Clash Thursday at Thunderbowl Raceway.

The stock car main paid $1,700 to win thanks to the support of the family and friends of Kris Mancebo.

Cody Laney’s redraw luck in modifieds ended after picking front row starts the two prior nights.  An eight was the worst possible redraw result for the Torrence driver putting him outside row four for the 25-lapper.

Troy Foulger had better luck and redrew the pole. Foulger made full use of his redraw and easily won the main.  Laney made it to third with eight laps remaining to join fifth starting Jake Pike in the pursuit of Foulger but the leader was too far ahead and the needed yellow never occurred.

Foulger won over Pike and point leader Laney with a five-second margin.

Stock cars ran their 20 laps with the big check awaiting one of the 16 starters. Anthony Guiliani led a dozen laps while three hopeful contenders raced for second.

Garrett Corn won the battle for second and quickly closed on Guiliani and drove under the leader in turn two. Corn stayed alongside Guiliani until getting through turn four better on the low line to lead lap 13.

Corn added to his lead as the final seven laps were scored to collect the big payoff ahead of Steven Johnson and Rick Diaz.

Northern sport mods were led by Adam Baker for five laps before Nick Spainhoward used the lower area of turn two to take the lead.  Once in front, Spainhoward was in control to win two in a row.

Tyler Bannister won a spirited duel for second with Andrew Pearce to fill the podium.

The Clash now moves to Merced Speedway for the final two nights of the series.
