FONDA, N.Y. — Max McLaughlin hadn’t planned to compete in the Fonda 200 weekend at Fonda Speedway, but he was in victory lane as the three-day event opened on Thursday night.
With the World of Outlaws Late Model Series rained out for the weekend, McLaughlin headed to New York for the Short Track Super Series-sanctioned event, which will pay $53,000-to-win on Saturday.
McLaughlin started fourth and won Thursday’s 33-lap Ultimate Underdog 33 for modifieds, holding off 12th-starter Danny Varin.
Michael Trautschold, Dave Constantino and Tanner Warner completed the top five.
A.J. Greco won the limited sportsman main event and Jason Samrov topped the stret stock feature.
