Matt Sheppard Ends Slump, Banks $10,000 Payday

CHATHAM, La. – Matt Sheppard brought an end to his rough start to the season by earning a $10,000 victory during Saturday’s Southern Super Modified Series event at Chatham Speedway.

The New York driver, who also set fast time, led every lap of the 75-lap feature after coming up just short of winning Friday’s 32-lap feature when a flat tire slowed him just before the checkered flag.

The last caution flag waved on lap 49 and Sheppard drove away from the field during the restart to easily take the checkered flag ahead of runner-up Erick Rudolph.

Stewart Friesen was third ahead of his wife, Jessica Friesen, with Friday’s race winner Larry Wight finishing fifth.

Sheppard and Stewart Friesen won a pair of heat races.

The finish:

Matt Sheppard, Erick Rudolph, Stewart Friesen, Jessica Friesen, Larry Wight, Jack Lehner, Ricky Wegner, Caleb Dillard, Brother Fowlkes, Joe Boswell, Eric Williams, Jimmy McCommas, David Forbis, Brandon Hightower.
