Madrid And Weiss Repeat Wins At Early Thaw

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — The second night of the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at Central Arizona Raceway saw a bump in car count with 96 teams in the pits.

The late model main was led by Billy Moyer Sr. for 14 nonstop laps, which led to lap traffic that allowed Jason Strand and Ricky Weiss to close the gap. Weiss passed Strand on the front as lap 14 ended and drove around Moyer in turn two to lead after 15 laps.

Weiss established a substantial lead, but traffic made things interesting the latter laps of the 35-lap feature.

Moyer closed and got his nose under Weiss but didn’t have the line to finish the job. Weiss took the win over Moyer and Strand.

Zachary Madrid took just one lap to take the lead from sixth starting and cruised his way to a repeat win. Steve Sluka was closing some, but came up several car lengths short. Trent Grager followed Sluka for third.

Limited modified action was all Shane Sabraski as he dominated with a flag-to-flag win. Three drivers put on an entertaining race for second and it was Lance Schill that got the spot ahead of Lucas Rodin.

Northern sport mods were led by Andy Clower for eight laps until a yellow erased his large lead. Joe Docekal then used the bottom of turn four to take the lead on lap 10. Numerous yellows erased Docekal’s lead, but he had no problem rebuilding his advantage and got the win over Clower and Camron Spangler.
