Looking Back On The Winter Nationals

SOMERTON, Ariz. — The recently concluded Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway ended the eight-day event by announcing the point champion in each of the five IMCA divisions. One of the nights was not a full five division show.

All nights of Winter Nationals action can be viewed on SPEED SPORT affiliate IMCA.tv.

Taking the IMCA modified championship was Tim Ward.  Averaging close to 90 modified entries per night, competition for the championship point honor was tough.

Ward won on the first and third nights and was steady enough on the other nights to win the championship title by one point.

Shane Paris, a Northern sport mod driver won the first two nights, added two second place finishes, a third, and his five trips to the podium played a big part in securing the championship.

Chase Berkeley did not win a stock car main event, however he had three podiums and zero finishes outside the top-10. That earned Berkeley the honor of winning the title.

Zach Tate took the hobby stock championship back to his home in Coolidge, Arizona with a strong performance. A stout Winter Nationals of two wins, two seconds, and three other starts in the top-10 was more than enough to lock the championship.

The consistent driver in the sport compact division was Kevin Reuter. One win, three finishes in second, a third, and two other finishes in the top 10 put the championship honors into the Reuter hauler.

After it was all said and done, this year’s Winter Nationals averaged 223 cars per night over the seven full nights of racing.

The 2024 Winter Nationals will add a full night of racing during the second week to make eight full nights of racing total.  Â
