TULARE, Calif. — The Central Valley IMCA Clash held round three at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway on Wednesday night, with 56 cars on hand for the three divisions.
Â
Cody Laney matched Tuesday’s performance by redrawing the front row and leading all 25 laps with only minor pressure.
Â
Bobby Hogge IV and Jerry Flippo completed the podium. With his win, Laney’s one point lead over Hogge IV entering the night was slightly increased.
Â
The two Thunderbowl races are Kris Mancebo Memorial nights with extra money added to the stock car division. Wednesday paid $1,000-to-win and Thursday offers $1,500 to the winner. The Mancebo family and friends raised the money to pay the special purse.
Â
Larry Thompson was the driver that ran the memorial laps for Kris Mancebo.
Â
The stock car main saw Steven Johnson lead nine laps until Thompson drove under Johnson in turn two to become the leader. Thompson battled side-by-side with Bo Partain, but shook that off and pulled away to claim the win over Partain and Johnson.
Â
Northern sport mods closed the evening with their 20-lap main, with Nick Spainhoward taking the victory. Spainhoward has won numerous sport mod mains driving the No. 40, however it was a different car, with a familiar outcome.
Â
Each restart led to pressure on Spainhoward, but it took a couple laps for the Bakersfield driver to regain a significant lead.
Â
Leading all the way, Spainhoward won over Tyler Bannister, who overcame a two-position penalty for a jump with four laps remaining. Jason Bannister was third.
Â
Tulare Thunderbowl will host round four on Thursday, along with the second night of the Kris Mancebo Memorial.
