KANKAKEE, Ill. — Seemingly almost impossible to beat sometimes, Nick Hoffman came home the winner of the 25-lap DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals feature at Kankakee County Speedway on Tuesday.
Hoffman, the 30-year-old racer from Mooresville, N.C., took the lead in his NOS Energy Drink Elite Chassis No. 2 on lap three and never looked back. A number of yellow flags were the only thing that slowed Hoffman on his way to the checkered flag.
Hoffman, a four-time Summit Racing Equipment Nationals champion, finished ahead of Jamie Lomax, Trevor Neville, Kyle Steffens, Kenny Wallace and Tyler Nicely. John DeMoss, Michael Ledford, Derek Losh and Todd Sherman rounded out the top 10 in the 22-car field. Last year saw Hoffman win 19 Summit Nationals features in 20 starts, ending up with 57 career wins.
In supporting races, Matt Hammond was the winner of the 20-lap feature race for Pro Late Models. Michael Marden came home second with son and father, Chase and Chad Osterhoff finishing third and fourth respectively and Torin Mettille grabbing fifth. Joe Brown won the 15-lap stock car headliner over Adam Williams and Braiden Keller. All total, 100 entries participated in the night’s competition.
The race program was delayed as one of the tall transport haulers took down the speedway’s main power line. Power to the well pumps was cut off, delaying the watering of the track.
