KANKAKEE, Ill. — With the exception of a race here or there, Nick Hoffman has dominated this year’s DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals.
It was the same story Tuesday night at Kankakee County Speedway, with Hoffman claiming the $1,000-to-win, 25-lap feature, scoring his fourth consecutive modified victory.
The 28-year-old racer, who was originally from Illinois but now calls Mooresville, N.C. home, drove the Justin Allgaier Motorsports-owned, Federated Auto Parts-sponsored No. 7 to the win after starting on the pole of the 25-car field. The win was the 10th of the season for the two-time Nationals titlist, who also won last year’s crown.
With a bunch yellow flags slowing the action, Hoffman was still able to take the checkered flag with a 2.897-second margin over second place finisher, Mike McKinney. Steven Brooks came home third followed by Will Krup, Derek Losh and Nick Clubb.
“It’s going pretty good right now,” said Hoffman after his latest victory. “Everything is going our way. You can’t have anything fall off this thing (the car). Every day is another challenge. Once I got a decent lead, I kind of cruised and saved my tires. It was all about keeping up the momentum and keeping the tires under you.”
The finish:
Nick Hoffman, Mike McKinney, Steven Brooks, Will Krup, Derek Losh, Nick Clubb, Jason Hastings, Zeke McKenzie, Levi Kissinger, Dylan Woodling, Michael Ledford, Kyle Hammer, Adam Pockrus, Beau DeYoung, Richard Craven, Bob Pohlman, Travis Cooley, Dale Jackson, Nick Seplak, Dustin Hume, John McClure, Curt Spalding, Daniel Flessner, Dylan Caldwell, Travis Kohler.
