FONDA & VERNON, N.Y. — Management of Fonda Speedway and Utica-Rome Speedway will organize a series of 358-Modified events next season.
Six 358-Modified events (four at Utica-Rome, two at Fonda) are planned for next season. The events will be contested on non-conflicting dates with neighboring speedways.
“There has been tremendous interest in hosting 358-Modified events at both our tracks,” Fonda and Utica-Rome promoter Brett Deyo said. “We are looking into dates that will work for maximum participation.
“This move is not to remove our current Modified division, but to open up both of our venues to another group of competitors.”
The events will be run under the rules package in line with Can-Am Motorsports in LaFargeville, N.Y., with DIRTcar 358, W-16 and the CT 525 engines eligible to compete.
“The word has been out since the fall that these events are in the works,” Deyo added. “We want to confirm that – yes, these are happening – and yes, a schedule will be out after the first of the year after working with other 358-Modified tracks in the area.”
Fonda Speedway, boasting an all-new clay surface for the upcoming campaign, kicks off with an Open Practice on April 12 and an April 19 opener.
