Flying Fuller Wins, Sheppard Gets 10th Title

CONCORD, N.C. — Tim Fuller turned in a dominant drive to victory, while Matt Sheppard secured his 10thSuper DIRTcar Series championship Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Fuller took the lead from Anthony Perrego, who had led from the start, on lap 24 and led the remainder of the 30-lap event.

It was Fuller’s third series victory of the season and his fourth at The Dirt Track and the 35th of his career.

“When you are in second, you are the one in the prime spot,” said the 56-year-old Fuller. “He made a little mistake and I had to capitalize right there at that moment.

“It started to rubber pretty good on the bottom and when you are in the control car that makes a difference.”

Fuller came to Charlotte with one crew member and put his No. 19 big-block modified in victory lane.

“To have all these fans here and do the four-wide salute and get another win here at Charlotte, you just can’t beat that,” Fuller said.

Mat Williamson finished second, but was eliminated from championship contention with Sheppard finishing fifth.

“Tim was really good. Hats off to him,” said Williamson, who finished third on Thursday night. “It’s cool he won. He’s an old boy.”

Perrego came home third.

“We took off really good and that was our downfall,” he said. “We had to those lapped cars and the air was getting to me a bit and the car was lashing down a little bit and Tim got by me there.”

Erick Rudolph and Sheppard completed the top five.
