GAFFNEY, S.C. – Billy Decker bested a slim five-car field to win the big-block modified portion of the Prelude to the Finals Tuesday at Cherokee Speedway.
Decker started on the front row alongside Mike Mahaney and took the lead after a brief battle with Mahaney. Once out front Decker pulled away to a comfortable $5,000 victory aboard his No. 91 entry.
“If anybody had known this track was going to be this nice there would have been a lot more cars here,” Decker said. “I got a little flash there by the 35 car (Mahaney) early, he was really good. I moved it down a groove and gassed it up a little bit and the car responded.”
Mahaney finished second, nearly three seconds back of Decker. Rocky Warner, Alex Yankowski and Kevin Root completed the running order.Â
