Baca Reigns In Cocopah IMCA Finale

SOMERTON, Ariz. — The final night of Cocopah Speedway’s Winter Nationals on Saturday continued to show excellent support from IMCA teams with 223 cars in the tri-level pit area.

Modifieds ran two multi-groove laps before a lengthy rain delay completely changed the track surface.  Chaz Baca led when the race was stopped.

When finally restarted. Baca ran 23 non-stop laps on an expected narrow and fast surface to win. Brady Bjella was closing but laps ran out, so he took second ahead of Brandon Beckendorf.

Mike Albertsen won the side-by-side opening lap duel with Curt Lund to lead 11 laps in the stock car main.  Dylan Thornton ran the top shelf out of turn four to edge Albertson at the line as lap 12 finished.

Thornton held off pressure for the remaining laps to win over Albertson and Shelby Williams.  Stock cars raced their main prior to the rain delay.

Northern sport mods were led by Levi Kiefer as the fast track continue to play its part although it began widening during the main.

Kiefer had control from start to finish to win over Miles Morris and 12th-starting Jacob Mallet Jr.

Brandon Bombardo controlled the hobby stock main but had to deal with a restart with five laps remaining. Thomas Daffern almost took the lead and another yellow with two laps left offered another opportunity.

Bombardo kept the lead those final two to win over Thomas Daffern and Brycen Dallen.

Sport compact racing had three cars racing together and Jesse Cordova won over D.J. Werkmeister and Kevin Reuter.

All the action was shown live on IMCA.tv.
