BOONE, Iowa — Aaron Martin made the tow to Boone Speedway looking to check the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s off his bucket list.
Next, he’ll be going dancing on Saturday night at Boone Speedway.
Martin led the last 23 of 25 laps in Tuesday’s final qualifying feature for the Hobby Stocks and will start on the front of the outside row in the championship event.
“This is crazy,” Martin said. He passed Wayne Gifford for the point on lap three and stayed in front to the finish. “I just wanted to come to Super Nationals and say I did it. Now we’re on the front row.”
Justin Frederick chased Martin every one of those last 23 laps, but came up short and finished second.
Running third through eighth and lining up behind them in the big dance will be 2019 champion Dylan Nelson, Tristan Grape, Les Lundquist, Jacob Robinson, Adam Hensel and Calvin Dhondt.
Grape had started 13th, while Lundquist was 20th. Nelson has now qualified four straight years while Martin, Dhondt, Frederick, Grape, Hensel, Lundquist and Robinson all make first-career main event starts.
The final six spots in the championship field of 30 will be added in last chance races on Wednesday.
